The inherent properties of composite materials make them ideal for manhole environments, but the materials are only part of the equation. Design features, application of engineering principals and methods of manufacture are critical to their performance as covers.
The Secure Manhole Covers combine all of these factors into a
‘best of class’ composite system. Composite covers are based on a patented structural system which when combined with high quality composite materials create superior manhole covers.
Composite covers have a very high strength to weight ratio and the design promotes easy moving after disengaging the locking mechanism. When removal/replacement is combined with our ‘ergonomic’ removal method they conform to Health and Safety lifting/removing recommendations and promote a much safer lifting regime.
The MBC combines the properties of composite materials with scientifically tested and mathematical resolved structures.
Features and Benefits
Electrically Non-Conductive - A composite cover can have its electrical conductivity altered to suit a specific requirement. It can be made totally non-conductive for areas where electrical shock is to be negated or avoided or it can be highly conductive where static needs to be dissipated.
- * Resistance is 1 x 1013 ohms
- * Covers subjected to 80,000 volts retained their insulation properties.
Non-Corrosive and Long Working Life - Composites as inert materials are perfect for manhole environments where destructive elements are continuous and unavoidable. Our composite covers will not corrode or cause corrosion when subjected to elements such as water, wind borne sand and salt - even at elevated temperatures.
Will not corrode in difficult environments or cause corrosion in contact with non-compatible materials. It is Saline and/or sandy conditions do not reduce the structure’s working life. The Structure is unaffected in all expected working temperatures.
Transparent to Radio Waves and Promotes Better Signal Strength - Covers allow transmission of all frequencies used in Automatic Meter Reading. This helps promote better signal strength and negates lifting the cover to read the data.
High Skid/Slip Value - The surface material of composite covers has a better slip resistance value than any other commercially used material. Our composite covers have a co-efficient of friction value of not less than 0.7.
Low Surface Wear Characteristics - Hardness is the major factor in resisting frictional wear. Our composite covers have a tread pattern specifically designed for water dispersal which contains calcined bauxite - a hardened embedded material which measures 9 on the Mohs scale [Diamond is 10] - and is integrated into the resin during the manufacturing process.
Will not Crack, Break or Delaminate -
The composite cover is robust and will not crack, warp, chip, swell, or expand. The stiff tensile structure resists all known forces on normal working conditions experienced on underground positions. Tensile stiffness is 4-6 times that of steel or aluminum.
Sealed and Prevent Contamination - A special sealing method creates a watertight, sand tight and airtight barrier. The position of the seal and the sealing action promotes self-cleaning.
Linear Arm Locking Mechanism - Our composite covers are supplied with a bevel geared linear arm locking mechanism which engages and disengages with an individually coded key/wrench.
